Job Description


Job Title: Nurse Manager
Salary Range: $130,000 - $170,000

Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Effectively plans, organizes, and evaluates work duties:
  1. Develop unit goals annually in conjunction with unit staff and unit Medical Director.
  2. Plan and maintain staffing patterns within budget parameters, considering continuity of care, staff competency, and patient acuity.
  3. Evaluate and set standards for patient care and unit equipment.
  4. Collaborate with support services to ensure a safe, clean, and secure environment.
  5. Promote intra- and interdepartmental communication.
  6. Maintain patient reference materials and ensure access to policies, procedures, standards, and care guidelines.
  7. Collaborate with Nursing Director and Supervisors to facilitate high-quality patient care.
  8. Coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care with the Medical Staff.
  9. Utilize staff effectively, considering professional, legal, and institutional constraints.
  10. Evaluate patient care delivery through documentation, observation, and comparison to established standards.
  11. Serve as a clinical resource person, assisting nursing personnel in assessing patient/family status.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge:
  1. Proficient in mathematical concepts and their application.
  2. Knowledge and ability to practice as defined by the California Nurse Practice Act, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and ANA Code of Ethics.
  3. Familiarity with Nursing Sensitive Indicators and demonstrated knowledge regarding the special needs and behaviors of age-specific groups.
  4. Understanding of legal and regulatory aspects of care, including knowledge of relevant legal documents.
  5. Competency in using hospital information systems.
  6. Knowledge of Patient Rights.

Education and Experience:

Education:
  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Five (5) years of management experience in lieu of BSN.

Experience:
  • At least five (5) years of acute care experience.
  • Progressive leadership experience, including experience as a charge nurse.

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
  • Current California Registered Nursing license.
  • BCLS required.
  • Unit-specific specialty certification required within twelve months of hire.
