Cerner Application Developer, Senior
Pay Range: $60/hour to $80/hour 
  Job Summary
The Senior Cerner Application Developer provides technical leadership and hands-on expertise to resolve complex, interrelated application and reporting issues within a healthcare information systems environment. This role focuses on Cerner CCL customization, reporting, data modeling, and analytics, supporting clinical and operational workflows across the organization.

The position requires strong analytical and technical skills to translate business requirements into scalable solutions, address system performance and data challenges, and support system installations and enhancements. The Senior Cerner Application Developer works independently on complex initiatives, collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders and external vendors, and may provide guidance, training, and work review for junior staff.

Key Responsibilities
Application Development & Reporting

  • Design, develop, and maintain Cerner CCL customizations and reporting solutions

  • Create and support standard and ad hoc reports, including scheduling, delivery monitoring, and enterprise analytics integration

  • Develop and maintain Discern/PowerInsight reports and data models

  • Support custom mPage development, including XR templates and ad hoc CCL requests

System Analysis & Solution Design

  • Analyze business needs, workflows, documentation, and system events to design effective technical solutions

  • Define system scope, objectives, and technical specifications

  • Evaluate existing and proposed systems and recommend improvements

Technical Leadership & Support

  • Independently manage and resolve complex system, performance, data, and architecture issues

  • Participate in system installations, upgrades, and enhancements

  • Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert for Cerner reporting and CCL logic

  • Maintain knowledge of healthcare IT best practices, standards (e.g., ITIL), and emerging technologies

Customer Service & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Engage with clinical and operational stakeholders to support workflows and reporting needs

  • Respond to service requests, incidents, and enhancement requests in a professional and timely manner

  • Collaborate with vendors, system owners, contractors, and internal teams

Performance Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and system optimization

  • Proactively pursue innovative solutions to enhance reporting, analytics, and workflow efficiency

Project Management & Team Collaboration

  • Contribute to and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Support project planning, milestone definition, progress tracking, and status reporting

  • Lead small to medium-sized initiatives and facilitate cross-functional meetings as needed

Training & Knowledge Transfer

  • Train and mentor new or existing staff on Cerner applications, reporting, and development standards

  • Support end-user and vendor training during system implementations and rollouts

Other Duties

  • Participate in on-call support rotations as required

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
    OR equivalent combination of education and experience

  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 9 years of relevant professional experience

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in a healthcare information systems environment

  • Strong hands-on experience with Cerner CCL (required)

  • Strong experience with Discern and PowerInsight (required)

  • Minimum of 1 year of Cerner data modeling experience

  • Consulting or project management experience preferred

  • Stakeholder engagement and clinical workflow support

  • Bonus: Soarian Reporting, Health Analytics experience
