Cloud Information Security Contractor
Pay Range: $70/hour to $91/hour
Our client requires the services of an experienced Cloud information security professional to advance key initiatives within the Information Security Office. The contractor will support the university’s Information Security Office in enhancing its Cloud security posture and security operations. The contractor will work closely with the organization’s Director of Security & Compliance and the ITS team to execute security initiatives that protect their digital assets on cloud.
Scope of Work:
The Contractor will work with the CIO and the ISO team and other ITS team members to mature and manage key areas of AWS security, including:
  1. Review and evaluate AWS cloud environments, security architecture, and operational controls.
  2. Assess the organization’s current cloud migration strategy and identify associated risks and security gaps.
  3. Evaluate current security protocols, policies, and practices supporting platform and cloud engineering teams.
  4. Deliver a concise assessment report with detailed recommendations aligned to industry standards (e.g., NIST, CIS Benchmarks, AWS Well-Architected Framework).
  5. Propose updates to the organization’s security policies and procedures, including Incident Response and Disaster Recovery, to be consistent with industry Cloud best practices and in alignment with relevant regulatory requirements (e.g. FERPA, GDPR, GLBA)
Experience:
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in AWS information security
  • Hands-on knowledge of AWS security architecture and cloud controls, IAM, security groups, logging (e.g., GuardDuty, Config)
  • Prior experience in a higher education environment is highly desirable.
Certifications:
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Security, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CISSP, CCSP, CISM, or CISA are required.
Skills:
  • Strong leadership, organization, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of information security frameworks and regulatory requirements.
Reporting and Communication:
  • The contractor will report directly to the Director of Information Security and Compliance and provide regular updates.
  • The contractor will participate in weekly meetings with the ITS team and provide status reports as required.
