SUMMARY

Responsible for successful project deployment outcomes and ensures accurate, complete, and professional deployment of microwave and wireless data systems. Implements and documents acceptance testing and as-builts. Interfaces with customers, subcontractors, and peers to ensure a successful outcome.

Has a strong command of microwave, DAS/BDA, Land Mobile Radio and wireless data system technology, concepts, and trends. Understanding IP networking and TDM circuit concepts and implementation practices.

The Operations Engineer will ensure compliance with all national and local procedures, regulations, and codes, and will provide progress updates to appropriate management channels on a regular basis. With every project, the Operations Engineer will be counted on to drive the innovation we’re known for.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
  • Advanced Understanding of Microwave Systems, Design, Deployment, and Trouble Shooting
  • Experience with In-Building DAS Design, Deployment and Trouble Shooting
  • Experience with LMR (Land Mobile Radio), Deployment and Trouble Shooting
  • Bench test and pre-configure wireless, networking and power equipment.
  • Travel to customer locations and job sites.
  • Coordinate with Implementation Subject Matter Expert (ISME) to collect photos and data to create accurate and complete closeout documentation.
  • Develop Methods of Procedures & Scopes of Work to assist field teams with best practice based on each project/site that is custom fit to the individual ISME.
  • Provide technical assistance to ISME.
  • Identify potential roadblocks and create solutions to avoid project delays and overruns.
  • Collaboration with key project stakeholders in regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Identify billable opportunities with the customer.
  • Organization and storage of all documents related to customer accounts.
  • Respond after-hours to customer trouble tickets, when required contractually with client.
  • Perform site and path surveys.
  • Perform spectrum analysis.
  • Perform on-site installation when all other field resources are booked.
  • Perform microwave and RF system designs in Cambium LINKPlanner and Pathloss.
  • Create network and rack diagrams in Microsoft Word or similar.
 
  • Troubleshoot microwave and wireless data systems.
  • Troubleshoot transmission lines, CAT5e and CAT6, and fiber optic cable.
  • Troubleshoot IP networks (Preferred – up to layer 3)
  • Troubleshoot TDM circuits.
  • Terminate coaxial cable and CAT5e and CAT6 cables.
  • RFC2544 testing on microwave links.
  • Pre-sales site visits.
  • Pre-sales design and input to proposals.
  • Assist in pre-sales project scoping.
  • DAS/BDA trouble shooting and site signal walks

REQUIREMENTS:

Technical Background
  • A strong working knowledge of the telecommunications industry, including wireless systems and the fundamentals of microwave networks, project management and implementation best practices.
  • RF free space loss and microwave propagation characteristics.
  • Knowledge of spectrum analyzer and vector network analyzer equipment.
  • Microwave path designs using Cambium LINKPlanner, Pathloss and/or Micropath.
  • Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP Layer 2 and Layer 3 methodologies and testing.
  • Experience with TDM interconnects, circuit planning and testing.
  • Understanding of fiber optic systems, measurements, and testing.
  • SNMP monitoring.
  • Strong documentation skills and discipline.
  • A strong working knowledge of the following:
    • Microwave installation, commissioning and troubleshooting
    • DC plant installation and battery maintenance.
    • Grounding systems and measurements.
    • Cellular router platforms (Cradlepoint, Sierra, Peplink, etc.)
    • Fiber cable termination experience, manual and fusion splicing.
    • Fiber OTDR testing experience.
    • T1 testing experience using a BERT.
    • Land mobile radio implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
