About the Firm
A mid-sized, client-focused law firm known for its results-driven culture is seeking a Head of Knowledge Management to lead the strategy, tools, and systems that enable attorneys and staff to access, share, and apply information efficiently. This individual will work closely with practice leaders, operations, and IT to strengthen collaboration, leverage emerging technologies, and drive continuous learning across the firm.
Position Overview
The Head of Knowledge Management acts as a strategic partner to the firm’s leadership, ensuring that knowledge, research, and information resources are organized, accessible, and aligned with the firm’s goals. This leader will oversee a team of information specialists and help define how the firm captures, curates, and delivers knowledge to improve client service, innovation, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute the firm’s overall knowledge management and information strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Promote a knowledge-sharing culture that empowers attorneys and staff to find and use information effectively.

Partner with practice group leaders to assess their information needs and build tools, systems, and resources that enhance performance.

Collaborate with IT to explore and integrate AI and emerging technologies that improve research, document management, and workflow automation.

Lead the design and ongoing development of the firm’s intranet and internal knowledge repositories.

Oversee knowledge and innovation projects aimed at improving efficiency, accuracy, and client service.

Supervise the research team, ensuring prompt, accurate responses to attorney inquiries and supporting professional development.

Assist other administrative departments (e.g., conflicts, docketing) with overflow or complex information requests.

Establish policies, guidelines, and training materials for knowledge and research practices.

Manage vendor relationships, subscriptions, and contracts for information services.

Stay current on developments in legal knowledge management, research technology, and industry best practices, and share insights across the firm.

Manage the department budget and ensure cost-effective use of technology and research resources.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS) or related field strongly preferred.

4+ years of experience in information services, legal research, or knowledge management within a professional services or law firm environment.

Demonstrated leadership in managing teams, vendors, and technology initiatives.

Strong communication, organizational, and project-management skills.

Familiarity with legal databases, intranet design, and knowledge management platforms.

Experience implementing or leveraging AI/GenAI tools in professional or research settings is a plus.
