Job Title: Information Security Engineer

Job Summary
The Information Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating network security, host-based security, application security, and other technical security systems. This role ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of computing systems, including servers, networks, and workstations. Responsibilities include security design, certification, management, monitoring, auditing, and compliance within the organization’s System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The primary focus is project implementation and production support, ensuring IT systems comply with security best practices and regulatory requirements.
Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
Experience

  • Minimum: 3 years of experience

  • Preferred: 5 years of experience
Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Information Security Professional (Preferred)
Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong ability to collaborate and work within a team

  • Excellent project management, time management, and communication skills (technical and non-technical)

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities

  • Ability to write reports and plans

  • Experience in conducting security vulnerability assessments for various information systems

  • Capability to analyze, troubleshoot, and investigate security-related system anomalies
Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in IT roles such as help desk administrator or systems engineer

  • Experience conducting network and system security audits

  • Familiarity with application security assessments

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws related to data protection and electronic health information

  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and accreditation processes

  • Security certifications such as CISSP or GIAC

  • Experience in systems or network administration

  • Prior experience working with healthcare information systems
Key Responsibilities Technical Security Configuration

  • Design, implement, and monitor security mechanisms for applications, networks, and servers

  • Install and maintain intrusion detection systems

  • Recommend scalable security solutions for IT infrastructure

  • Maintain security infrastructure, including malware protection, encryption, intrusion detection, and security event monitoring
Risk Assessment

  • Analyze IT security needs and recommend solutions

  • Inform IT personnel about security updates, patches, and threats

  • Perform penetration tests and risk assessments on systems and applications
System Configuration & Testing

  • Conduct routine vulnerability and port scans

  • Support network services by addressing security implementation issues

  • Perform certification and accreditation duties within the SDLC
Audits

  • Conduct security audits, including user access and internet use

  • Review system logs and provide reports on security events
Consulting, Problem-Solving & Analysis

  • Provide security consulting services

  • Develop security reports and research industry trends

  • Communicate security risks and recommendations to management
Incident Response & Disaster Recovery

  • Assist in detecting and resolving security incidents

  • Contribute to the development of disaster recovery plans
Training & Compliance

  • Train end users and IT staff on security best practices

  • Provide guidance on HIPAA compliance and secure network practices
