Job Description
Job Title: Network Engineer - Cisco Switch Refresh
Skills Required:
- Experience:
- Minimum 7+ years of solid networking experience, with a preference for candidates with 10+ years of experience.
- Extensive experience with Cisco switch refresh projects is mandatory.
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in Layer 3 switching, OSPF (Open Shortest Path First), and Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) is required.
- Experience with hardware refresh and migration, particularly replacing and configuring older switches and routers.
- Familiarity with Cisco hardware, including Cisco 9300, 9410, 9500, and 9606 core switches.
Job Responsibilities:
- Switch/Router Refresh:
- Perform switch and router refresh projects in hospital locations, replacing 10–12-year-old hardware with new Cisco devices.
- Configure, test, and install new hardware as part of the upgrade process.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work alongside two technicians assigned to assist with hardware refresh projects.
- Cutover Execution:
- Execute hardware cutovers, typically starting around 5:00 PM, 7:00 PM, or 9:00 PM, depending on the location.
- Each cutover usually lasts approximately 5 hours, and tasks, such as moving one port at a time, require attention to detail and patience.
- Work on a rotating night schedule, alternating with another Network Engineer and a technician team.
- Prep Work:
- During non-cutover hours (day or night), prepare for upcoming site refreshes, including pre-configuration and testing.
