Job Description

Physical Therapist, Rehabilitation
Pay Range: $48 to $70/hour 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Provision of Patient Care
  1. Performs Physical Therapy evaluations as ordered by a physician.
  2. Based on the evaluation, develops treatment programs with appropriate treatment objectives which are mutually agreed upon by the patient.
  3. Provides for the implementation of proper treatment programs through themselves or through supervision of a physical therapy assistant or aide.
  4. Periodically evaluates the patient's response to treatment and alters the program as appropriate with the physician's approval.
  5. Administers standard diagnostic or prognostic tests of muscle, nerve and joint for functional ability.
  6. Performs therapy services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings and Home Health patients as assigned.

B. Communication
  1. Maintains appropriate patient records including the initial evaluation, daily treatment charting, progress reports, and discharge summary in the patient's medical record.
  2. Documentation on the Multidisciplinary Care Plan and Teaching Record.
  3. Communicates effectively verbally and with written communications to referring physicians.
  4. Provides timely and accurate billing information specific to patient interventions provided.
  5. Maintains effective relationships with physicians, physician's offices, other departments within the hospital, coworkers and patients.

C. Administrative
  1. Maintains patient and employee confidentiality.
  2. Maintains adequate attendance and punctuality.
  3. Maintains a professional appearance and good personal hygiene.
  4. Participation in departmental staff meetings.
  5. Demonstration of proper safety practices in the clinic and on the hospital floors.
  6. Participation in the established weekend and holiday staffing rotations.
  7. Participation in the Performance Improvement process in the Rehabilitation Services Department.

Non-Essential Duties:
  • Performance of housekeeping tasks in their work area.
  • Participation in patient education and forms development.
  • Participation in continuing education for patients, hospital employees or outside customers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of the theory, techniques and practices of accepted physical therapy treatments for geriatric, adult, adolescent and child patient populations.
  • Knowledge of the English language and possess good composition skills for the purposes of written communication.
  • Knowledge of  hospital information system (HIS).
 
Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
  • Administration of physical therapy treatments in the acute care, outpatient and home health care settings.
  • Accurate assessment of a patient's progress on the basis of judgmental criteria and measurable or verifiable criteria.
  • Supervision and training of physical therapy assistants and aides.
  • Training of non-medical persons to assist with a patient's home program/management.
  • Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited Physical Therapy Program.
  • Preference of 1 year of acute care patient clinical experience.
  • Possession of a valid license as a Registered Physical Therapist issued by the Board of Medical Examiners, State of California or eligible for license.
  • American Heart Association BLS CPR certification.
