SAP Functional Architect – Plan-to-Produce (PTP)
The SAP Functional Architect – Plan-to-Produce (PTP) is responsible for leading the functional architecture and design of SAP manufacturing planning and execution processes within SAP S/4HANA. This role drives end-to-end production workflows including demand planning, MRP, production execution, capacity planning, and shop floor operations while ensuring scalable, high-performing, and clean-core compliant SAP solutions.

The Architect partners closely with Product Owners, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into standardized SAP PP/PTP solutions that support multi-plant manufacturing operations. This role also ensures strong governance across master data, integrations, testing, deployment, and hypercare activities.
Key Responsibilities SAP PTP Architecture & Strategy
  • Own the SAP Plan-to-Produce (PTP) target-state architecture across all manufacturing plants including MTS, MTO, ETO, and repetitive manufacturing environments.
  • Define and govern SAP PP standards, process variants, production models, and planning frameworks.
  • Enforce Clean Core principles using standard SAP functionality and side-by-side extensions only when necessary.
  • Define reference architectures for:
    • Production Orders
    • Process Orders
    • Repetitive Manufacturing
    • Kanban
    • Confirmations and Backflush processing
  • Establish non-functional requirements (NFRs) including:
    • MRP runtime performance
    • Posting latency
    • Job concurrency
    • Logging and monitoring standards
    • Error handling and operational support
Master Data Governance
  • Govern manufacturing master data including:
    • BOMs
    • Routings
    • Work Centers
    • Production Versions
  • Standardize planning parameters such as:
    • Lot sizing
    • Safety stock
    • Lead times
    • Scheduling margins
    • Planning strategies
  • Define material master governance rules aligned with PTC, OTC, and RTP processes.
Integration & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Design integration architecture across SAP domains including OTC, RTP, PTC, and CPQ.
  • Define integration contracts including:
    • APIs
    • IDocs
    • Mapping logic
    • Sequencing
    • Error handling
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to prioritize initiatives that improve:
    • Throughput
    • Yield
    • Schedule adherence
    • Capacity utilization
Security, Compliance & Controls
  • Define SAP security and authorization models for planners, schedulers, operators, and supervisors.
  • Ensure segregation of duties (SoD) between master data governance and execution activities.
  • Ensure auditability and traceability for:
    • Order changes
    • Confirmations
    • Yield and scrap transactions
    • BOM and Routing updates
Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Define end-to-end business process testing scenarios including:
    • Demand Planning
    • MRP
    • Goods Issue
    • Confirmations
    • Goods Receipt
    • QM integration
    • FI/CO postings
  • Support SIT, UAT, regression testing, and automation initiatives.
  • Develop test scripts covering:
    • High-volume manufacturing
    • Capacity constraints
    • Material shortages
    • Substitutions
    • Partial production scenarios
Cutover, Deployment & Hypercare
  • Lead cutover planning and production readiness activities.
  • Establish mock MRP runs, pilot order validation, and stock adjustment procedures.
  • Define hypercare KPIs and stabilization metrics.
  • Drive root cause analysis and permanent issue resolution.

Testing & Deployment
  • E2E scenario catalogs
  • SIT/UAT scripts and acceptance criteria
  • Regression test packs
  • Cutover readiness documentation
  • Hypercare playbooks and issue triage procedures
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline
  • 10–15 years of SAP PP/PTP experience in SAP S/4HANA environments
  • Strong expertise in:
    • MRP
    • Production Planning
    • Production Execution
    • Capacity Planning
  • Experience with:
    • Multi-plant manufacturing operations
    • Capacity leveling and bottleneck analysis
    • Manufacturing master data governance
    • MTS, MTO, ETO, and repetitive manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of SAP Clean Core principles and SAP BTP extension strategies
  • Experience reviewing WRICEF objects including custom production reporting and MRP enhancements
  • Experience supporting UAT, cutover, deployment, and hypercare activities
  • Executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to mentor functional analysts and support CoE maturity initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
  • SAP PP Certification
  • Experience in manufacturing or distribution industries
  • Experience with variant configuration and advanced planning tools
  • Exposure to make-to-order and variant-driven production environments
