Senior Systems Engineer (Contract)
Pay Rate: $73.50/hour
 
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join a DevOps/SRE-oriented Systems Engineering team supporting large-scale web and mobile applications in an enterprise environment. This role partners closely with product, development, QA, and business teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable systems.

The ideal candidate is proactive, technically strong, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Mission & Objectives

  • Reduce or eliminate guest/customer-impacting incidents and outages

  • Enable product teams to focus on development and enhancement of the product portfolio

  • Improve operational reliability, security, and scalability
Operational Responsibilities

  • Participate in on-call support rotations as required

  • Update and maintain monitoring and alerting systems

  • Manage system and application access

  • Perform root cause analysis for incidents and outages

  • Maintain and update operational documentation and runbooks
Engineering Responsibilities

  • Partner with product teams to deliver operational, security, and business solutions

  • Provision and support new services and applications

  • Automate system and application workflows

  • Tune and optimize systems for performance and reliability

  • Provide systems administration, maintenance, and production support
Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with development, QA, product managers, and business stakeholders

  • Lead project planning, architectural reviews, and design discussions

  • Break down project objectives into actionable tasks

  • Ensure timely completion of tickets and deliverables

  • Communicate project status and progress clearly

  • Mentor other engineers and share knowledge across the organization
Growth Expectations

  • Translate strategy into multiple project objectives

  • Own delivery accountability for projects and initiatives

  • Coach and guide other engineers on task planning and execution

  • Contribute learnings and best practices to the broader engineering organization
Technical Qualifications (Preferred – in order)

  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Atlantis

  • AWS: Fargate, ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, EC2, S3, ALB/ELB, ElastiCache, EKS, KMS/Secrets Manager, VPC, IAM

  • Logging & Monitoring: CloudWatch, Splunk, AppDynamics, Grafana, ElastiCache

  • Automation & Config Management: Rundeck, Chef, Ansible, Vault

  • Messaging: RabbitMQ, Pub/Sub

  • Google Cloud Platform: App Engine, Kubernetes (Helm/Tiller), Cloud Functions, Firebase, IAM

  • Load Balancers

  • Languages: Go, Python, Node.js (AngularJS), Java (Spring MVC)

  • Nice to Have: Azure experience
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or 17+ years of relevant professional experience
